BB-8 on the move!

Dear Parents, I hope you are surviving this cold weather!! We have been continuing our theme of The Little Red Hen and our songs of 5 Current Buns and Pat-a-cake.
The children have been learning about crossing the line while playing pat-a-cake through various different games with each other.
We have been making bread and writing about various sources of bread. Learning about foods that use different types of bread and where they come from.

We started out the week by  practicing kneading and making dough.

After learning about how wheat grows and what we can use it for, we tried some bread.

Pasta is also made from wheat and is very multi-purpose.

We have taught children to use lots of tools, such as saws and hammers. Once shown calmly and concisely, children are able to use a knife under firm supervision.

We filled our bucket and the class voted to play a game of dodge ball in the secondary gym.

Pen building for our chicks.

In mathematics we have moved into a more exploratory area of shape.

A teamwork matching game.

Our Friday challenge was to make a tower taller than Lewis's legs (our previous best).

Our threading and patterns challenges. The children are quite focused on pattern, which is a key way to learning about problem solving.

Our best boy and girl received medals and certificates during Mondays assembly!

Qiv was rightly very proud of her achievement.

Minnie has been investigating time, using the language of 'half past'.

Sachu has been breaking his own targets and climbed to the top of the climbing frame!

The children are learning very quickly at the moment and can be interested in many different themes. At the moment we have been investigating Star wars characters (particularly BB-8), flags of the world and of course our topical story of The Little Red Hen.

Home learning

Ask your child if the little red hen should share her bread? Why/ not?

There are lots of different animals that live on a farm. Make a list of all the different animals that can be found on a farm.

Make a list of all the ingredients you need to make bread. Head to the supermarket and let your child fill the basket. Go home and spend some time making bread together.

The Little Red Hen.

Dear Parents,

We have been closely observing fruit and vegetables.

Enjoying lots of sensory exploration, using a lot of our new language.

Exploring shape in large and small areas.
