Home learning

  • Take a picture of the place you live and SEND it to school, either by printing it off, or you can just email it to me (park@ascot.ac.th) you can just copy the picture and add it to an email straight from your phone.
This can be with the family, your child, or just the property, whichever. This will be added to our mapping display.

  • Talk to your child about lists and show a selection if you can, even just receipts from your purse. Things like ingredients on kitchen products, titles inside a lounge magazine, listings on the T.V etc
Please make a selection of lists with your child. These can be numbers, shopping lists, family names or anything that really interests your child: Dinosaurs/ supermen etc.

  • Play a game of I-Spy with your child.
Please use words starting with s a t p i n m g o and use predictably easy ones words. You will know best the level of challenge your child can handle.

  • Use post-its and make labels around the house. Allow your child to do the writing. If they are struggling, give them at least 20 seconds to think (thats a long time). Then prompt with the first sound (letter). Have fun with it, its a great activity.

Welcome back!

Good afternoon, I hope everyone is well rested and ready for another term in RP!

The children have come back, talking about all sorts of visits and places they have been.

This coming fortnight we will be doing an increasing amount of child centered learning through interests such as mapping; selecting foods; familiar signs and advertising; jungles and monsters ,alongside an undercurrent of Goldilocks and the Three Bears

We will be making an Ice cream shop and tasting different types of ice cream, of which the children have taken to very creatively.

It was lovely to meet you all during the parents evening, also to put faces to children's parents and their home lives. I'm a strong believer in Parents as a Child's first Teacher and thanks to those that have come to school so far to read.
The final week of term 1.1 the children were very interested in mapping and trains, and we took this rather a long way. Preparing props, stations, ticketing systems and tickets etc. Everything you would need for a real journey (besides an actual train).

The children started with a simple design.

Adding to their venture as they saw fit.

All manner of works were created, including an onboard cafe, and a strict 'No-ticket-No-ride' policy!

I look forward to updating you on our plans and work over this term. Thank you for your continued support, and please ensure to see the weekly homework.

Kind regards,

Douglas and the RP Team

Home learning

  • Ask all the adults in the house what when their birthday is, and what they are hoping to get.

  • Role play packing a bag and going on holiday. What do you need to take?

  • Look at all the  clocks and watches in your house, what is the same, what is different. What is the short hand for?

  • Make small pieces of card with the SOUNDS s   a   t   p   i   n   u  m    and make three letter words. This doesn't matter if it is not a word, just practice sounding out each sound, then ask your child to try and say the word.

Ourselves, senses and hearing.

This last week we have been continuing our topic of listening and our senses. We have been playing lots of games such as Simon Says, discussing tiredness, eating routines and developing our writing skills. On Monday we saw what Ted had been up to over the weekend; busy making playdough with his Mum for our charity event!
The children are now capable at writing lists and making labels, no small task at this stage in the year, I hope they spend some time on their homework doing the same.
Some of the children are beginning to show signs of possible schema's, does your child have any?

Ploy and several other children are very interested in rotary movement.

This week we had the pleasure of Lewis's Mum visiting us. She read us a story about a giant turnip, does your child know what happened in that story? Which characters were in it?

Throughout the story, Lewis's Mum was keeping a keen eye on the children, asking them questions as she went, this is a great way to recap throughout the story: checking for understanding...the children also got a gift as well, which was very kind.

During the beginning of this week, E'to's Mum kindly came in and read us a wonderful story about looking after yourself, and how to keep clean.

Lewis was investigating how far he could climb, pulling himself up with his hands, holding on with his feet.

Tuning into our sounds and /r/ip(ing) the paper.

Beginning to learn about time. The children have also been seeing what they can do in one minute.

We have been having a wonderful week and the children have achieved so much. We are looking forward to Friday's Charity Event. Please do send in any old unused toys and some home made playdough.

I hope you enjoy your well earned break, and we'll look forward to seeing you all after the holidays.

Kind regards,

Douglas and RP

Mystery Hunt !

So as we had filled our bucket! The class decided they wanted to go on a mystery hunt.

During the day, Applehead Ted had found a note with a clue on it, thankfully he shared it with the class.

This led to a dramatic hunt around the school, we had to think hard as to who was leaving these clues and what they all meant. Thankfully the class managed to solve all the clues and find their prize!

After visiting the music department we found the prize hidden under a pingpong table in the Secondary gym! E'tos keen eyes found the snacks which had been left by the mysterious supply teacher.
We headed back to class to share the treats, well done RP

Happy birthday Deepman !

A big happy birthday to Deepman, we were all very happy to share his birthday and practice singing our songs together!

Happy 5th Birthday Deepman!

Plane-sailing

We've had a great time recently flying around, looking at all sorts of sights and role-playing various airport crew.

This is an example of how a child centered activity can involve the whole class.

Hong had been served drinks from the air hostess.

The children arranged their own plane by themselves.

We simply added props and various ideas and the children knew how to further their own investigations.

They had a ticketing system, after all....you cant board a plane without a ticket. Our helpful staff were there to check you in.

ALL ABOARD !!

Ploy kept a  watchful eye on any needs of the passengers.

Flying to Japan, then transfer and onto the Philippines.
